Man City...top club helps a top club

Not for the first time I went to see Ian Harrison, coach at Ancoats Lads' Boxing Club.

Ancoats boxing club, a great subject to photograph and led by the very welcoming Ian Harrison.

Having lost their beautiful Victorian building, the club was looking for a new home but had very little money until Manchester City FC stepped in to buy them a building and new training kit. Nice story, and all the better as Ian's a dirty red!! Good luck to them. More here.

A tale of woe...

Nine months on from their deaths, I went to photograph the families of drink drive victims for the Daily Mail.

Yasmine Till lost her husand just a year after marrage and is left with the children on her own.

Some time has passed, but the guilty driver was just sentenced and so we had to do the 'death knocks'. A very sad story and a lot of folk would think we're being intrusive, but I've yet to meet a family who doesn't want to speak out in these circumstances, especially when the prison sentence is questionable. Netball...bigger than you might thank

Sent to photograph a netball team at their game in Manchester, and I'm suprised as to how popular the sport seems to be.

I'm suprised to say that it's actually quiet a good sport to watch

A big crowd filled both sides of the arena and there was a decent media presence too.

Students....

Once a year I do a fun photography job for a great college in Manchester.

I shoot their prospectus in the main, but I also attend this certificate evening and we get some shots of the students as they return from their new lives at University or within work. I generally steer clear of event photography, but these guys are always a good laugh and freely play up for the camera.

Here's a shot of Prof. Ruth Itzhaki of Manchester University - a leading figure in the research of alzheimers disease.

It had to be a very tight portrait, so couldn't use any props, but the light helps it along.

 

Christmas stories....

News is a much cyclical business than you might think. The same stories crop up with each season and event - some more sad than others.

Vicki and Louis appeal for missing Dad to come home for Christmas.

Vincent Derrick went missing in 2003 and Vicki Derrick and son, Louis were making another appeal for him to come home. A very difficult one to call as I didn't know how the youngster would react when I asked the inevitable question of posing with a picture of Vincent.
